2024 City Holiday Closings and Revised Sanitation Schedules


Thanksgiving: November 28 & November 29, 2024

City of Statesville Thanksgiving Holiday Closures and Schedule Changes

Statesville, NC – November 12, 2024: City of Statesville offices will be closed on Thursday, November 28, and Friday, November 29, for Thanksgiving. Please note the following changes to facility hours and garbage collection schedules.

The Statesville Fitness & Activity Center will close early at 5:00 pm on Wednesday, November 27. Both the Fitness & Activity Center and the Bentley Community Center will reopen with regular hours on Saturday, November 30.

Residential Garbage Collection (November 25 – November 29):

  • Monday’s routes: Collected on the regular schedule.
  • Tuesday and Wednesday’s routes: Both collected on Tuesday.
  • Thursday and Friday’s routes: Both collected on Wednesday.

Commercial Garbage Collection (November 25 – November 29): For businesses with roll-out carts or garbage containers:

  • Monday and Tuesday’s routes: Both collected on Monday.
  • Wednesday and Thursday’s routes: Both collected on Tuesday.
  • Friday’s routes: Collected on Wednesday.
  • Saturday’s routes: Collected on the regular schedule.

Christmas: December 24 & December 25, 2024

City offices will be closed on Tuesday, December 24, 2024 , 2024 and Wednesday, December 25, 2024 in observance of of the Christmas holiday.

1) Residential Routes:

a) Monday routes will be collected on its regular day.

b) Tuesday & Wednesday routes will be collected on Thursday.

c) Thursday and Friday routes will be collected on Friday.

2) Commercial Businesses with roll-out toters or garbage containers:

a) Monday and Tuesday routes will be collected on Monday.

b) Wednesday & Thursday routes will be collected on Thursday.

c) Thursday and Friday routes will be collected on Friday.

d) Saturday’s route will be on regular schedule.

New Year's Day: January 1, 2024

City of Statesville offices will be closed Monday, January 1, 2024, in recognition of New Year’s Day. The Statesville Fitness and Activity Center & Bentley Community Center will be open regular hours on December 31, 2023 and closed on January 1, 2024.

Revised residential garbage collection and recycling schedule:

  • Monday’s routes will be collected on Tuesday.
  • Tuesday and Wednesday’s routes will be picked up on Wednesday.
  • Thursday and Friday’s routes will be collected on a regular schedule.

Revised commercial businesses (roll-out containers) garbage collection schedule:

  • Monday and Tuesday’s routes will be collected on Tuesday.
  • Wednesday through Saturday’s routes will be collected on the regular schedule.

Martin Luther King, Jr. Day: January 15, 2024

City of Statesville offices will be closed on Monday, January 15, 2024 in observance of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day. There will be no garbage collection on this day.

Revised schedule for residential sanitation routes for the week of January 15-19:

  • Monday’s routes will be collected on Tuesday.
  • Tuesday's routes will be collected on Wednesday.
  • Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday’s routes will operate on the regular schedule.

Revised schedule for commercial businesses with roll-out carts or garbage containers for the week of January 15-19:

  • Monday’s routes will be collected on Tuesday.
  • Tuesday through Saturday’s routes will be collected on the regular schedule.

The Statesville Fitness & Activity Center and Bentley Center will be closed on Monday, January 15, 2024.

Good Friday: March 29, 2024

Statesville City offices will be closed on Friday, March 29, 2024, in recognition of the Easter holiday. There will be no garbage collection on this day.

The revised schedule for residents for the week of March 25-29 is as follows:

  • Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday’s routes will operate on a regular schedule.
  • Thursday and Friday’s routes will be collected on Thursday.

The revised schedule for commercial businesses with roll-out carts for the week of March 25-29 is as follows:

  • Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday’s routes will operate on a regular schedule.
  • Thursday and Friday’s routes will be collected on Thursday.
  • Saturday’s routes will operate on a regular schedule.

The Statesville Fitness and Activity Center and Bentley Community Center will be closed Friday, March 29, and Sunday, March 31.

There will be one City Council meeting in April on Monday, April 8, 2024, at 7:00pm. This meeting will include a public comment session.

Memorial Day: May 27, 2024

City of Statesville offices will be closed on Monday, May 27, 2024 in observance of Memorial Day.  There will be no garbage collection on this day.

Revised schedule for residential sanitation routes for the week of May 27 – May 31:

  • Monday’s routes will be collected on Tuesday.
  • Tuesday and Wednesday's routes will be collected on Wednesday.
  • Thursday and Friday’s routes will operate on the regular schedule.

Revised schedule for commercial businesses with roll-out carts or garbage containers for the week of May 29 – June 2:

  • Monday and Tuesday’s routes will be collected on Tuesday.
  • Wednesday through Saturday’s routes will be collected on the regular schedule.

The Statesville Fitness & Activity Center will be closed on Memorial Day.

Independence Day: July 4, 2024

City of Statesville offices will be closed on Thursday, July 4 in observance of Independence Day. The following are important changes to city services and schedules:

Residential Garbage Collection Changes

  • Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday routes will remain on their regular schedule.
  • Thursday and Friday routes will be collected on Friday, July 5.

Commercial Garbage Collection Changes

  • Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday routes will remain on their regular schedule.
  • Thursday’s routes will be collected on Friday, July 5.
  • Friday and Saturday routes will remain on their regular schedule.

City Council Meeting

The City Council will hold one meeting in July on Monday, July 15, at 6:00 PM in the Council Chambers of City Hall. The meeting will include a public comment session.

Statesville Leisure Pool – 1875 Simonton Road

The Leisure Pool will host two swimming sessions on July 4:

  • Session 1: 11am – 3pm
  • Session 2: 4pm – 8pm

Each session can accommodate up to 300 patrons, and entry is on a first-come, first-served basis. The pool will be closed for one hour between sessions for maintenance. General admission is $7.00 per person for each session, for ages 1 and up. Annual members of the Statesville Fitness & Activity Center receive free admission. No outside food or drink is permitted, although patrons may bring an empty cup to fill with water within the pool area. Concessions are available for purchase.

Splash Pad – 1410 3rd Street

The Splash Pad at the Bentley Community Center will be open on July 4 from 10am to 6pm. Admission is free.

Labor Day: September 2, 2024

Statesville, NC – August 19, 2024 – In observance of Labor Day, all City of Statesville offices will be closed on Monday, September 2, 2024. This closure includes the Statesville Fitness & Activity Center and its Administrative Offices.

Revised Garbage Collection Schedule

There will be no garbage collection on Monday, September 2. The following revised schedule will be in effect for the week of September 2-6:

Residential Routes:

  • Monday’s routes will be collected on Tuesday.
  • Tuesday and Wednesday’s routes will be collected on Wednesday.
  • Thursday and Friday’s routes will be collected on the regular schedule.

Commercial Routes for Businesses with Roll-out Carts or Garbage Containers:

  • Monday and Tuesday’s routes will be collected on Tuesday.
  • Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday’s routes will operate on the regular schedule.

City Council Meeting

Please note that there will be only one City Council meeting in September, scheduled for Monday, September 16, 2024. This meeting will include a session for public comment, allowing residents to share their thoughts and concerns with the council.

Facility Closures and Special Hours

  • The Statesville Fitness & Activity Center, including the Administrative Offices, will be closed on September 2nd.
  • The Statesville Leisure Pool will be open on September 2nd for two swim sessions, weather permitting:
    • Session 1: 11:00 am – 3:00 pm
    • Session 2: 4:00 pm – 8:00 pm
    • Each session is limited to 300 patrons, with entry on a first-come, first-serve basis.
  • The Bentley Community Center Splash Pad will be open on September 2nd from 10:00 am – 6:00 pm, weather permitting.

Veterans Day: November 11, 2024

Statesville, NC – October 30, 2024 – In observance of Veterans Day, City of Statesville offices will be closed on Monday, November 11. No residential or commercial garbage collection will take place on this day. Below is the revised collection schedule for residential routes and commercial businesses with roll-out carts or garbage containers during the week of November 11 – November 15, 2024.

Residential Collection Schedule

  • Monday routes will be collected on Tuesday, November 12.
  • Tuesday and Wednesday routes will be collected on Wednesday, November 13.
  • Thursday and Friday routes remain on their regular schedule.

Commercial Collection Schedule

  • Monday routes will be collected on Tuesday, November 12.
  • Tuesday and Wednesday routes will be collected on Wednesday, November 13.
  • Thursday, Friday, and Saturday routes remain on their regular schedule.

The Statesville Fitness & Activity Center and Bentley Community Center will be closed on Monday, November 11, 2024, and will resume normal operations on Tuesday, November 12, 2024.
