Steve Bridges Appointed Public Works Director for the City of Statesville
The City of Statesville is proud to announce the appointment of Steve Bridges as the new Director of Public Works. With a career spanning over 28 years in public service, project management, and engineering, Bridges brings a wealth of experience to his role, where he will oversee essential programs, including street maintenance, sanitation, and fleet management.
Since joining the City of Statesville as Assistant Public Works Director in 2020, Bridges has played a key role in advancing the city's public works operations. His responsibilities have included oversight of multiple divisions, engineering design development, and implementation of program objectives. Through his strategic approach and dedication to public safety, he has enhanced service delivery and infrastructure maintenance across Statesville.
“I’m excited to continue building on our progress and am committed to making a positive difference in the daily lives of our residents,” said Bridges. “The heart of public works is service to the community, and I am dedicated to ensuring our projects meet the highest standards and truly serve the citizens of Statesville.”
“Steve’s extensive background in public works and his commitment to the community make him an exceptional fit for this leadership role,” shared City Manager Ron Smith. “His technical expertise, coupled with his project management and strategic planning skills, will ensure that our Public Works Department continues to meet the needs of our residents and businesses as the City of Statesville grows.”
As Public Works Director, Bridges will manage department activities, develop infrastructure project plans, coordinate with city departments, and address citizen concerns. He will also work closely with City Council, the City Manager, and community groups to support Statesville’s growth and enhance quality of life for residents.
Bridges holds an MBA from Pfeiffer University and a B.S. in Electronic Engineering Technology from Western Carolina University. He is preparing for the North Carolina Professional Engineer (P.E.) Exam this November. His previous roles include Senior Planner with the City of Statesville Planning Department, Assistant District Engineer at the North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT), and Operations Engineer for the Metrolina Regional Transportation Management Center.
In his new position, Bridges will continue focusing on public infrastructure improvements, departmental planning, and responding to community needs, with a long-term vision for Statesville’s growth and development.
