City of Statesville: Notice of Public Hearing on Proposed Charter Amendment Ordinance


The public will take notice that the City Council of the City of Statesville will conduct a public hearing at Statesville City Hall at 6 PM on Monday, August 5, 2024, concerning a proposed ordinance amending the Charter of the City of Statesville as set forth in Chapter 667 of the 1959 Session Laws of North Carolina, as amended, to implement four-year staggered terms of the City of Statesville City Council. It is proposed that the regular municipal election to be held in November of odd years instead of October. It is also proposed that in November of 2025 the one of the at-large candidates who receive the highest number of votes shall be elected for four- year terms, while the other at-large candidate who receives the next highest number of votes shall be elected for two-year terms. At the regular municipal election to be held in November of 2025, and every four years thereafter, one at-large member of the City Council shall be elected to serve for four-year terms. At the regular municipal election to be held in 2027, and every four years thereafter, one at-large member of the City Council shall be elected to four-year terms. Following the public hearing, the City Council will consider passage of the ordinance at its regular meeting to be held on August 19, 2024.
