National School Resource Officer Day (Saturday, February 15, 2025)
National School Resource Officer Day is a time to recognize and celebrate the dedication, service, and positive impact of School Resource Officers (SROs) in our community.
These highly trained law enforcement professionals play a vital role in fostering a safe, supportive, and positive learning environment for students and staff in our schools.
The Role of School Resource Officers
SROs are more than just law enforcement officers assigned to schools. They serve as:
✅ Protectors – Ensuring the safety and security of students, teachers, and staff.
✅ Mentors – Building positive relationships and serving as trusted role models for students.
✅ Educators – Teaching safety programs, conflict resolution, and responsible decision-making.
✅ Community Liaisons – Bridging the gap between youth, law enforcement, and the greater community.
The Impact in Statesville Schools
Our Statesville Police Department’s SROs are dedicated to building trust and strengthening connections with students. Whether it's through classroom presentations, mentoring, or being a visible presence, they strive to create a welcoming and secure school environment.
This National School Resource Officer Day, we extend our deepest gratitude to these officers for their commitment, compassion, and hard work. Their presence helps foster a safer, more inclusive, and supportive learning environment where students can thrive.

City of Statesville Hosts Second Annual Canned Food Drive (February)
The City of Statesville is proud to announce its Second Annual Canned Food Drive in celebration of Canned Food Month this February.
Building on the success of last year’s campaign, this initiative aims to support local food pantries and help families and individuals in need within the community.
Throughout February, residents are encouraged to donate non-perishable canned food items at convenient drop-off locations across the city.
Celebrating Black History Month (February)
Black History Month is a time to celebrate the remarkable contributions and achievements of Black individuals in our communities. Statesville, North Carolina, has a rich history, and it's important to recognize the trailblazers who have made significant impacts in the City.
Notable Firsts
Willie M. Williams, Sr. achieved a historic milestone in 1987 by becoming the first Black person elected to the Statesville City Council.
Williams went on to serve the city for an impressive 12 years, contributing significantly to the community and demonstrating the value of his continued leadership.
Honoring Statesville's African American Trailblazers
Daisy M. Connor Robertson, born in 1893, was a compassionate African American nurse who faced the challenges of her time head-on. Davis Hospital in Statesville did not allow African Americans to stay overnight, but Daisy provided a solution. Her home on Garfield Street became a sanctuary for seriously ill or injured patients who needed extended care. Tragically, Daisy succumbed to tuberculosis, likely contracted while caring for her patients, showcasing her unwavering commitment to the health and welfare of others.
